Although 3D glasses are pretty new to most people, they have actually been around for almost two hundred years. Three dimensional or 3D glasses were first invented by Sir Charles Wheaton in 1838. Although they never became popular until much later. These glasses created a three dimensional image out of a two dimensional image by presenting a slightly different image to each eye of the wearer, thus making the 2 dimensional images look more lifelike and real.

The general public first became aware of 3D glasses through movie theaters. 3D glasses not only added a new dimension to the movies themselves by making what was happening on screen appear more real but actually served to make the audience feel as though they were part of the actions. This use of 3D glasses were especially helpful in bringing large crowds of teenagers in to watch the latest horror movies as they felt as though they were a part of the danger. This proved to be an exciting alternative to Friday and Saturday television shows and helped theaters increase their profits quite handsomely.

Today 3D glasses can be found almost everywhere. Computer gamers find that these glasses are a must have options for some games making the games and their computerized opponents come alive adding a whole new interest and perspective to computer games for a vast number of people while making god profits for the companies who design these games.

3D glasses have proven themselves to be such a draw that they are now used in a variety of ways to entice viewers to watch everything from movies to sporting events. 3D glasses are used in fireworks displays, laser light shows, and festivals as well as sporting events. You can also buy 3D glasses to view meteor showers and solar eclipses.

There are many companies that make and sell paper and plastic 3D glasses and new biodegradable 3D glasses are being manufactured as well. Surprising there are a number of companies including many fortune 500 companies who buy these glasses in bulk and use them for a variety of purposes. So don’t be overly surprised if the next time you step into that swank office downtown or attend an art show someone doesn’t hand you a pair of 3D glasses in the hope of enhancing your experience by adding another dimension to your world.
